Informative Writing (How to Make an Edible Snowman)

This quarter we have been working on writing 'how to' essays. We started off with How to make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, that might have been one the most entertaining lessons ever. The students were told to write, in detail, the directions for making a PB & J sandwich. Once they wrote their essays I purchased the materials needed to make the sandwiches, and then the fun began! I read what they wrote and did exactly as they said - Imagine this - when a student said you put the peanut butter on the bread - I literally took the jar of peanut butter and placed it on top of the loaf of bread. The roar of laughter was contagious and very quickly they learned how important details were going to be!

Our second writing was much more successful - How to Make an Edible Snowman. Again they wrote and we built and they had a great time...let the pictures tell the story of each snowman!

The finished writing displayed for all to see :)
